Introduction to Turnitin
Turnitin is a web application used as an anti-plagiarism tool to check academic work for copying and similarity. It can check journal articles, theses, reports, research proposals and other types of academic writing, and supports English and more than 40 other languages, such as Spanish, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese and Arabic. (1)
Works written in Thai can also be checked, but language-processing (coding) limitations may make the similarity score higher than it actually is.
Turnitin has 3 modules: (2)
1. Similarity Check
Finds similarity between academic work and 3 types of sources: websites, electronic databases, and institutional files stored in Turnitin. Results appear as a "Similarity Report" showing the Similarity Percentage.
2. Feedback
Lets instructors give feedback on submitted work using QuickMarks and summary comments.
3. Grading
Lets instructors grade written work using rubrics.
