          รายการอ้างอิง (References) หรือ บรรณานุกรม (Bibliography) ที่ปรากฏในส่วนท้ายของวรรณกรรมรูปแบบต่าง ๆ ทั้งในด้านวิชาการหรือสื่อประเภทต่าง ๆเป็นหลักฐานที่ช่วยให้ผู้อ่านหรือใช้สารสนเทศสามารถเข้าถึงแหล่งข้อมูลต้นฉบับที่ผู้เขียนหรือผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานนั้นได้ศึกษาค้นคว้ามา และยังแสดงถึงความน่าเชื่อถือโดยบ่งบอกที่มาขององค์ความรู้นั้น สามารถตรวจสอบความถูกต้องหรือติดตามวรรณกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องได้อีกหลายลำดับชั้น การเขียนรายการอ้างอิงในสาขาวิชาต่าง ๆ จะมีรูปแบบการอ้างอิงเนื้อหาและการเขียนรายการอ้างอิงหรือบรรณานุกรมแตกต่างกัน เช่น สาขามนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ นิยมอ้างอิงรูปแบบเอพีเอ (APA –American Psychological Association) สาขาวิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์ ใช้การอ้างอิงรูปแบบแวนคูเวอร์ (Vancouver Style) การอ้างอิงรูปแบบเอซีเอส (ACS—American Chemistry Society) สําหรับวรรณกรรมสาขาเคมี เป็นต้น

It indicates authority and sources enabling verification and literature tracking. Various subjects use different citation styles such as APA (American Psychological Association) and Chicago styles used in the field of humanities and social sciences, Vancouver used for medical science, and ACS used for chemistry.

         เป็นรูปแบบการอ้างอิงที่มีการเรียงลำดับตัวเลขอย่างเป็นระบบ มักใช้ในงานที่เผยแพร่ในงานวิชาการสาขาการแพทย์ วิทยาศาสตร์และยา ก่อตั้งและจัดทำขึ้นโดยสภาบรรณาธิการวารสารด้านการการแพทย์นานาชาติ ปัจจุบันดูแลโดยเครือข่ายห้องสมุดการแพทย์แห่งชาติสหรัฐอเมริกา และเป็นที่รู้จักกันในมาตรฐานสำหรับการส่งตีพิมพ์ในวารสารชีวการแพทย์

         Vancouver is a numbered referencing style commonly used in medicine and science. It follows rules established by the International committee of Medical Journal Editors, now maintained by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It is also known as Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals.
